1. 📰 News of the week
DST implementation could harm EU marketplaces. Would they still be competitive globally?
Representatives of more than 130 countries gathered last week in the OECD’s Paris headquarters for three days to discuss, among other things, the digital service tax (DST)
DSTs are taxes on gross revenue derived from a variety of digital services
As of the beginning of this year, they had been implemented in seven EU member states (Austria, France, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal, and Spain) while 3 (Belgium, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia) had published proposals to enact them.
The global tax deal would create a new 15% minimum tax rate for multinationals. It would also allocate more taxing rights to countries where digital giants generate their profits
Countries with digital services taxes have agreed to hold off applying them for at least another year
The deal was supposed to be implemented next year, but it has been delayed until 2024
Only five countries - Belarus, Canada, Pakistan, Russia, and Sri Lanka - did not agree to the freeze
The freeze will give countries more time to finalize the global tax deal
📓Takeaway:
The European Tech Alliance (ETA) believes that DSTs are a blunt policy tool that disproportionately impacts European technology companies.
ETA is a group of European technology companies that are concerned about the impact of digital services taxes (DSTs).
The ETA argues that DSTs would deprive European technology companies of a vital source of capital, essential for reinvesting in their growth, and consequently weaken their competitiveness both within Europe and globally.
The ETA calls on European governments to refrain from introducing new DSTs or increasing the rates of existing DSTs.
The ETA letter was signed by a number of leading European marketplaces , including Allegro, Zalando, and Booking.com

How sustainable is Vinted, a leader of second-hand fashion?
Vinted has been praised for its sustainability credentials, and a recent study found that Vinted avoided 453 kilotons of CO2 emissions in 2021. This is equivalent to the emissions of 3.6 billion kilometers of driving

📓Key numbers:
Here are some key data points from the study:
📦 Vinted packaging accounts for 3% of the carbon impact
🏭 Each product sold on Vinted has an impact of 30.86 grams of CO2.
